AN EXPRESSION OF GREAT SUCCESS, ACHIEVEMENTS
AND HARD WORK

Our founding father Mr. Muhammad Abdullah started and nurtured his first spinning venture by the name of “Sharmeen Textile” in the 1950s in Dhaka East Pakistan. Due to unrest in East Pakistan now the People Republic of Bangladesh, Mr. Muhammad Abdullah moved to Karachi in 1970.

Once in Karachi Muhammad Abdullah would become the founder of Sapphire and fueled by his determination, he expanded his first spinning mill in Kotri Sindh into multiple spinning mills and an empire was known as Sapphire Group.

Inspired and mentored by his father Muhammad Abdullah, Shahid Abdullah started his first venture outside Sindh in Lahore that would become the first offshoot of Sapphire in late 1970s and early 1980s as Sapphire Fibres. Following are the key highlights of our journey.

  • 1979

    SFL

    SFL was incorporated as a public limited company in Pakistan in 1979 and its shares are quoted on Karachi, Islamabad, and Lahore Stock Exchanges.

  • 1980

    First spinning unit of SFL

    First spinning unit of SFL started production in 1980 and still operational with a capacity of more than 37000 spindles. First, two spinning units were merged and they are currently known as SFL 1&2.

  • 1988

    Third spinning unit of SFL with the latest technology of that time was incorporated which started production in June 1988 is currently operating more than 65000 spindles.

  • 1997

    Amer Cotton Mills

    SFL ventured into value-added business by setting up Dyeing and Knitting facility in 1997, the units started production in August 1997 and still operational with state-of-the-art facility and machinery.

  • 2016

    Reliance Cotton & Spinning Mills Ltd

    SFL further strengthened its value-added business by establishing a denim production plant in 2016 which is producing world-class denim for leading brands.
